Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte, has thrown his support behind his Arsenal counterpart, Arsene Wenger, whose future has been the subject of intense speculation this week.
Fresh questions have emerged over Wenger’s future, after the Gunners were hammered 5-1 at Bayern Munich in the Champions League, leaving them on the
brink of elimination.
When asked about the Frenchman’s situation, Conte chose to praise Wenger
and the work he has done at Arsenal.
He said: “I have great respect for him as a manager and man. He has done a great job for 20 years and is doing a great job
in the present.
“When you are the coach in the great team you are under pressure. He is a really good manager, one of the best in the
world.
“His team is very strong. There are times results are no good, but don’t forget the work the coach has done in the past.”
Earlier on Friday, Wenger insisted he will still be managing next season , whether at the Emirates or elsewhere.
“No matter what happens, I will manage next season. Whether it is here or not, that is for sure,” he said.
“It is important for the club to make the right decision for the future. I did not work here for 20 years not to care.
“I had many opportunities to go
somewhere else but I care for this club and its future. It is important for the club to be in safe hands.”
