The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH branch has called on the governors of Oyo and Osun state to desist from cheap blackmail of the staffs and address the main issue which is funding
ASUU in a press statement signed by its chairperson, Dr Abiodun Olaniran and Secreatry Dr Toyin Abegunrin which was made available to the media challenged the governor of Oyo state Senator Abiola Ajimobi to present to the public any evidence(s) and state what role ASUU has play in the auditing process.
“For the umpteenth time, let us reiterate the fact that ASUU has nothing to do with audit exercise and therefore cannot stand in the way of the exercise”
The union said further that . “It is high time they dropped cheap blackmail and face the urgent reality of the need to honestly address the LAUTECH issue which is funding”. Our demand is simple, provide honest framework for sustainable funding of the institution. This should be done by adhering to Wole Olanipekun panel’s recommendations for immediate injection of funds for the settlement of backlog of salary arrears (10 months!)”
The union also reminded the government of Oyo State that it has not responded to LAUTECH administration’s statement to the effect that KPMG has not been able to commence operation because it was yet to settle the contractual agreement with the owner states.
They argue that their inability to respond removes the thin veil of lies that the government has been feeding the public with over the issue of auditing.
“We find it curious and funny that the government helped into office by the people will insist that it should be begged by the same people before attending to people’s yearnings for proper funding of education. This, to say the least, is the peak of arrogance of power. “
“We hereby reiterate our appeal in our previous release that our governor should find a space in his heart to forgive the sin’s of hapless electorates for voting them into power without questioning the quantum of humanity in them”.
“They should also not visit the sins of their perceived enemies on innocent students whose only sin was ever choosing LAUTECH to pursue their educational dreams”.
“The Paris club refund is a golden opportunity to bail LAUTECH out before it is swallowed by the contractual commitment. No infrastructural development is greater than the education of our teeming youths”.
