A draft resolution toughening sanctions on North Korea, aiming to deprive Pyongyang of $1billion in export revenue, has been presented by the United States to the United Nations Security Council.
According to reports, the Security Council is due to vote on Saturday
on the draft resolution aiming to deprive Pyongyang of $1bn in export
revenue over its continued missile tests.
A diplomat familiar with the negotiations revealed that China and
Russia were prepared to support the draft resolution, which would be the
seventh set of UN sanctions imposed on North Korea.
“We have high confidence that they will be on board with the broad
outlines of this resolution,” said the diplomat, who briefed reporters
on the contents of the draft.
Recall a month ago, former Iowa governor and the new US Ambassador to
China, Terry Branstad revealed that stopping the threat of North Korea
will be a top priority to him when he resumes office.
According to a video message to the Chinese people released at the
time, Branstad also noted that U.S.-China trade imbalance, will also be
