Father Uses Son’s Name To Dupe Man Of N250,000

A suspected fraudster, Mr. Adebayo Kareem, was arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Courtyesterday for allegedly using his son’s name, a military officer, to defraud a man to the tune of N250,000. The accused, who reportedly committed the offence at Ofatedo area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital in 2014, was arraigned on a two count charge bordering on fraud and stealing.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Adegoke Taiwo, said the offence was contrary to and punishable under sections 419 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11, Laws of Osun State, 2003.

Taiwo told the court that Kareem used the name of his son, Madasiru, who is a military man serving in Benin, Edo State, to receive N250,000 from a victim, Olawunmi, under the pretence of assisting his son to secure a military job, which turned out to be false. But the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge preferred against him by the police. His counsel, Okobe Najite, applied for his bail in the most liberal and affordable terms.

The magistrate, Mrs. Awodele Olubukola, granted Kareem bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum. She then adjourned the case till November 24 for hearing.
